Nirvana is an American rock band formed in 1987 in Aberdeen, Washington, that has become a symbol of a generation and a key phenomenon in global music culture. They are often called "the voice of Generation X" and the primary force that brought the grunge movement from the underground to the global stage. Nirvana revolutionized the music industry of the 1990s, paving the way for alternative rock. Their music, which blends the melodicism of punk rock with the heaviness of heavy metal, as well as Cobain's lyrics, which balance sarcasm, despair, and sincerity, remain influential and relevant. Dave Grohl later founded the Foo Fighters, which became one of the most successful rock bands of modern times.
